Hi everyone~ Well as usual I didn't intend to wait this long until my next post. Time is just really moving by quickly isn't it? Too quickly, in my opinion. We have been busy here cutting hay, gardening, and of course cooking. On Saturday, Lil' Farmchick and I went to Taylor Swift at the state fair. Wow-that young girl can sure put on a great show. Sunday found Jr. Farmer and I at another concert, Rodney Atkins. I love alot of his songs too. We had a great time at both concerts. We have two more concerts to attend--Gary Alan and Dierks Bentley.
I had several people ask questions about the sunflowers. The sunflowers are not just for fun and to look pretty. They are an actual crop that we plant with a planter and tractor. I will be posting more on that at another time. If you would like to see the sunflowers at harvest time go here.
So, I had a lot of people request the breadstick recipe. Here it is!!!
***I changed it back to normal as people could not leave a comment....hope it works now******

So, I had a lot of people request the breadstick recipe. Here it is!!!
PIZZA HUT STYLE ~ BREADSTICKS
1 1/2 cups hot water
2 TB sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup non-fat dry milk
1 TB yeast
3 cups flour
1/3 cup melted butter (half for the bottom of the pan and half for the top of the breadsticks)
your choice of topping, garlic, parmesan cheese, oregano, salt, pepper ect...whatever you want!
Dissolve sugar, salt and dry milk in the hot water. Add enough flour to make a soupy like mixture. Just add slowly until it looks right to you. When the mixture is no longer hot but still warm add the yeast and stir well. Add the rest of the flour--enought to form a moderately stiff dough. Knead the dough until smooth. ( I did this in my Kitchen Aid mixer). Now roll the dough into a rectangular shape the size of your baking pan. Spread half of the butter onto the bottom of the pan and then place the dough into the pan. Spread remaining butter on the top of the dough. (I skipped this part and just sprayed Parkay Butter Spray on the top just to save a few calories but if you really want them to taste like PH breadsticks then you should probably use the butter! :) Top of dough with topping of your choice or just leave them plain. Cut the dough into breadsticks (a pizza cutter works great) and let raise for 15 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 or until golden brown. That's it folks! :)
I am going to change my comment style--the last time I did it people could not comment so if you are here and try to comment and it will not let you PLEASE send me an email at farmchickskitchen@yahoo.com and let me know that it is not working. I will change it back then. Thanks for your help!

I am so short I couldn't see anything at the TS concert...so I decided not to go to anymore. Love your blog!

ReplyDeleteThanks!
Hye :) This is my 1st time visiting your blog, accidentally stumbled upon it when i was searching for breadstick recipe :)can't wait to try your recipe, but by the word 'dry milk', do you mean the milk powder? tq
ReplyDeleteYes--dry milk = milk powder! :)
ReplyDeleteI was skeptical, it seemed to easy and fast having bread rise for only 15 minutes, but wow! Fantastic! Thank you for sharing this recipe.
ReplyDeleteI just googled bread sticks and found your site... I'm making homemade pizza tonight and already had the dough going... so I'm making 3 pizzas and a thing of bread sticks, they are rising right now and look good.
ReplyDeleteJust wanted to come back and say... the whole family plus a friend loved the breadsticks, they will be a family favorite around here on pizza night :)
ReplyDeletethanks for the recipe! this looks amazing!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteMade these the other day. About as close to the Pizza Hut breadstocks that I've been able to come.
ReplyDeleteThey're great!
Thanks for posting this!
I try not to eat any artificial ingredients or food that I don't know what's in it. My adult son brings the commercial breadsticks home from Pizza Hut or anywhere else that sells them...almost every morning. I finally mentioned that I could make them from scratch...he said "you do and I'll never buy them again". Your recipe was the first one that sounded like I could pull it off. I DID and he DOESN'T anymore! Thank you so much, it came out perfect and I don't even know how to work with yeast very well. They were delicious! I alternate between the garlic topping, powdered sugar icing, and cinnamon and brown sugar toppings.
ReplyDeleteWhat size of pan do you use for the breadsticks? Glass or metal? Thanks for helping an old man who left the farm long before you were born and long before anyone within 100 miles had ever heard of a breadstick ...
ReplyDeleteAnonymous`I use a 9 x 13 pan. Thanks for stopping by and for your comment....made me laugh! I hope you get this reply...I don't have any other way to contact you.
