I started planting my garden today!!
Yes...it finally dried out and it is finally warm too!
Just seeds though mind you.............................
We have a frost warning out for tonight so I
will not be putting any plants out as of yet!
I will be planting tomato and pepper plants later.
Being in the garden is HEAVEN on earth to me!

Hokey toot! You have quite the variety there! I put in some chard, not a lot, just some seeds from a friend. Arugula and several other kinds of lettuce, french radishes, carrots, broccoli raab, peppers (red and yellow), halapeno peppers, Lincoln peas, beans, zucchini, a variety of herbes, and over 20 tomato plants. (tomatoes and peppers going in tomorrow) I am putting in mostly heirloom varieties, Purple Cherokee being one of my favorites. You're right, a little bit of heaven on earth!
ReplyDeleteI agree that being in the garden is Heaven. I have planted tomatos, peppers, cabbage, iceberg lettuce, brocoli, zuccini, cucumbers and green beans. Have fun in your garden!
ReplyDeleteWe are FINALLY planting some seeds tomorrow and I can hardly wait! Lettuce, spinach, green beans, peas, broc, cauli, cabbage, peppers, carrots, tomatos. We've already got the rhubarb and asparagus going...i'm sure there is more but I can't rememer it all now.

Hooray for gardens! I got mine planted last week. We had lots of rain, and it took awhile to dry out. I planted tomatoes (20 plants, a variety of types), pickling cucumbers, red/yellow peppers, spaghetti squash, several kinds of lettuce, spinach, and several kinds of herbs.

Oh, how fun. This year I planted tomato plants,(cherry, grape and heirloom) green beans, yellow crook neck squash, another type of squash, zucchini, bell peppers - green and yellow, jalapeno peppers, chili petina peppers, cucumbers, and some herbs.
ReplyDeleteI already have squash on the vines, we have had a lot of rain, so I am hoping that they do not turn to mush before it is time to pick them.
What a timely post. I spent all day in the garden(s). I already had potatoes, Swiss chard, onions, spinach, leaf lettuce & radishes all planted and up. We harvested some radishes and spinach.
ReplyDeleteToday I planted sweet potatoes, 4 different tomatoes (Better Boy, Roma, Yellow Pear and LA Cherry); a red pepper and a hot pepper, herbs- thyme, oregano, sage (basil went in last week).
I also planted dianthus, coreopsis and a hydrangea.
I weeded, mulched and watered (alot of watering).
I'm tired but happy. You can send that rain down to us!!
No garden for me. Can I come pick some veggies from yours?? :)
ReplyDeleteI so wish I was into gardening!! I just don't have the time!! But if I did have a garden I would have radishes, cucumbers, peppers, watermelon and strawberries!! Probably even more but that is all I can think of and since I won't have them I'd better not think to much about them cause I'll crave them LOL!!
ReplyDeleteNo veggie garden for us yet... DH promises when he retires we will once again have one. Just annuals and perennials here. And not as many as in past years. The old knees don't like it! LOL But enought to be pretty and make the place look interesting.

Heaven on earth? Sounds like Heaven IN earth to me..haha. No garden here...way too hot now. Actually, we have no place to plant a nice garden...so, it's off to the grocery for me.

We don't have a garden either...Stush said he had to tend to one when he was little and swore he'd never have one, it's to shady here anyway. I do have flowers though that I plant such as geraniums and impatients:)

ReplyDeleteI have planted 9 heirloom tomatoes, 9 roma tomatoes, 2 yellow tomatoes, cucumbers, green beans, zucchini, summer squash, white and yellow corn, banana peppers, pumpkins, garlic, sunflowers, cantelope and watermelon. I think thats it. This year I planted some blueberry plants and herbs and am anxiously awaiting, to see how they do.
We have already put our garden out but we are in OK. I will put pictures on my blog. We have corn, tomatoes, pototoes, okra, peppers, onions, strawberries (if we can keep the dog out of them), that it.

I do have a garden but it's not heaven to me! I do it because we LOVE fresh veggies but it's so hard to find the time to get the darn thing weeded and it gets out of control many years. Oh well, we still get veggies out of it but it's a ugly garden! I usually plant zucchini, spinach, onions, squash, cucumbers, lettuce, green beans and our favorites, tomatoes and green peppers which I finally got in this week. This year I also planted eggplant....never done it before and don't have a clue what I am going to do with them but wanted to give them a a try. Yours looks like quite the variety and very good stuff there!
ReplyDeleteI enjoy your posts, and mostly connecting with other like-minded girls! Here on the Monterey Bay in California I could literally grow a garden year round. I don't because the ground needs a rest and so do I... even though gardening is heaven to me. I have to put my garden in early because we have dense San Francisco type fog that settles over us for about 6 weeks during the summer. Its too cool for many of the crops I'd love to plant, but right now my corn is waist high and are showing their top tassels. I have potatoes, onions, leeks, garlic, beans, lettuce, peas, lettuce, artichokes, tomatoes (in the greenhouse... the only place they will grow well here), beets, carrots, pumpkins... broccoli (lots and lots of it) and cabbage. I've been harvesting and filling my freezer for about a month now. Show us photos as your garden grows.
ReplyDeleteOooo! I love that you are planting your garden and can't wait to see what comes up from it. Here in the 'big harsh' I don't have anywhere to plant. Also can't keep anything growing in this place as I face North and South. The North side makes plants too leggy trying to get to the sun and the South side burns my poor little plants until they shrivel and die. It's always been a sore spot with me as my friend, AS, has always given me some really beautiful plants and flowers in pots. Oh well, at least I can live vicariously through your garden. Hope it grows abundantly. xxoo

Ahhhh, the best time of the year! God loves us and this is the proof-sharing in the creation.....
ReplyDeleteWe planted 3 crops of onions so they wouldn't all be ready at thte same time. Onions are alot of work. We have zucchini, summer squash, cucumbers, two planting of green beans-again, so they aren't all ready at the same time-French breakfast radishes-good for sandwiches and so sweet you could eat them for dessert-kohlrabi, tomatilla, cherry tomatoes,romas, rutgers tomatoes for slicing and canning, red potatoes. white potatoes, bell peppers, anaheims, cubanelas, poblanos, mammoth jalapenos, carrots, eggplants,marigolds, zinnias, mammoth sunflowers, burgundy sunflowers, Mexican sunflowers....I wanted to plant okra but not enough room. We have a big bed of asparagus and this year we started some rhubarb. One very friendly neighbor plants a generous crop of sweet corn that he shares with us because I share pepper relish with him. There are raspberries and blackberries that grow along the railraod tracks near here so we get plenty of those, too and my darling sister has an apple orchard that provides enough fruit for the whole family plus her neighbors! I guess we are pretty blessed!
Glad that you finally got to get in the garden. I just love it,except for the weeds that seem to what to grow too. I planted cucumbers,tomatoes,peppers,carrots,peas,

My garden is a small one this year...if the rabbits don't stay out, it will be smaller!!! Tomatoes, red peppers, jalapenos, banana peppers, potatoes and cucumbers.

ReplyDeleteI planted watermelon, beans, squash, corn (doing a 3 sisters kinda thing) sunflowers, cantelope, potatoes, peppers...that might be about it. Of course I had to plant everything in Feb-early April being in AZ and the weather is hitting 100 degrees now! This is my first garden and I have to say it was pretty disapointing--whether it was the birds or bugs or rabbits or mice (not sure which) as soon as those little sprouts would pop up they'd be gone by evening! Every single one! They were food for someone but not me! I have a chain link fence surrounding my garden but I guess that wasn't good enough. If you have the time feel free to post me comments on my blog and let me know if you have dealt with anything like that. Thanks! -Pauline
