Recipe for Pizza Hut Style Breadsticks

Hi everyone~ Well as usual I didn't intend to wait this long until my next post. Time is just really moving by quickly isn't it? Too quickly, in my opinion. We have been busy here cutting hay, gardening, and of course cooking. On Saturday, Lil' Farmchick and I went to Taylor Swift at the state fair. Wow-that young girl can sure put on a great show. Sunday found Jr. Farmer and I at another concert, Rodney Atkins. I love alot of his songs too. We had a great time at both concerts. We have two more concerts to attend--Gary Alan and Dierks Bentley.



I had several people ask questions about the sunflowers. The sunflowers are not just for fun and to look pretty. They are an actual crop that we plant with a planter and tractor. I will be posting more on that at another time. If you would like to see the sunflowers at harvest time go here.

So, I had a lot of people request the breadstick recipe. Here it is!!!






PIZZA HUT STYLE ~ BREADSTICKS





1 1/2 cups hot water


2 TB sugar


1/2 tsp salt


1/2 cup non-fat dry milk


1 TB yeast


3 cups flour


1/3 cup melted butter (half for the bottom of the pan and half for the top of the breadsticks)

your choice of topping, garlic, parmesan cheese, oregano, salt, pepper ect...whatever you want!







Dissolve sugar, salt and dry milk in the hot water. Add enough flour to make a soupy like mixture. Just add slowly until it looks right to you. When the mixture is no longer hot but still warm add the yeast and stir well. Add the rest of the flour--enought to form a moderately stiff dough. Knead the dough until smooth. ( I did this in my Kitchen Aid mixer). Now roll the dough into a rectangular shape the size of your baking pan. Spread half of the butter onto the bottom of the pan and then place the dough into the pan. Spread remaining butter on the top of the dough. (I skipped this part and just sprayed Parkay Butter Spray on the top just to save a few calories but if you really want them to taste like PH breadsticks then you should probably use the butter! :) Top of dough with topping of your choice or just leave them plain. Cut the dough into breadsticks (a pizza cutter works great) and let raise for 15 minutes. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 or until golden brown. That's it folks! :)

~Sunflowers~

I hope everyone is having a fantastic summer! :)

I wanted to show you our sunflowers before they start to bloom. It is starting to really grow now. We have had a not too hot of a summer, alot of below average in heat days. It says in the Farmer's Almanac that we would have a cooler than average summer and another doozey of a winter! WHAT? I can't even let myself start to think about winter!




I know everyone likes to see our fields of acres and acres of big blooming sunflowers but I thought I would show you what they look like now. Don't worry....when they start to bloom I will be sure to post a picture! :) Our flax has just begun to bloom so I will have to share a picture with you soon. The blooming crops are always so pretty.




My days have been filled with gardening, baking, cooking and good times at the lake with our family--until our boat died the other day and we had to have a jetski pull us to shore! :) The parts are on their way here though so we will be able to hit the water soon!



I baked these breadsticks the other day. They are supposed to be like Pizza Hut breadsticks. I have not tasted their breadsticks so I really do not know if they taste like them or not! I do know that my kids loved them. Would anyone like the recipe?? Let me know folks! Thanks for stopping by.

Okay....so it was more than a "few" days before I posted this recipe! :) This dessert looks patriotic so it is great for the 4th of July or Memorial Day but I think it is just perfect for a hot summer day (or even a not so hot day! )I hope you enjoy it.





Patriotic Frozen Delight

1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk
1/3 cup lemon juice
2 cups (16 ounces) plain yogurt
2 cups miniature marshmallows
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 cup sliced fresh strawberries
1 cup fresh blueberries




In a bowl, combine milk, lemon juice and peel. Stir in yogurt, marshmallows and pecans. Spread half into an ungreased 11-in. x 7-in. dish. Sprinkle with half of the strawberries and blueberries. Cover with the remaining yogurt mixture; top with remaining berries. Cover and freeze. Remove from the freezer 15-20 minutes before serving.


I have been busy in my yard and garden. I can't believe how fast the summer is going. I would like it to SLOW down just a little. I need more time before my babies go back to school! My garden and flowers are really growing now and so are our crops. I will be back in a few days to post a few crop and other pictures from around the farm. Is your summer going fast also??

Happy Weekend Wishes......to you and you and you!

I meant to post more often this summer but I just can't seem to get it done! I am going to try to do better. I have so many pictures that I could share with you all. I take literally thousands of pictures in a year. I have so many of our family and of things around the farm. I am always sending pictures of the kids to friends and family. I am not that great of a photographer but I really enjoy taking pictures. :)


Today we celebrated my Grandma's 92nd birthday! It was a great day spending time here with our family. Grandma wanted enchiladas so I made 32 enchiladas--some shredded beef and some cheese! I basically made by shredded beef like I showed you in this post-- except I made two roasts, used corn tortillas and I also had to make green gravy--Grandma's favorite! I also made apple crisp....served it warm with vanilla ice cream! YUMMY!


I have a great recipe that I tried out on the 4th of July. I took pictures but did not want to post it until I could say it was tried and true. :) It is a very pretty dessert made with blueberries and strawberries....it looked patriotic! Is a frozen dessert so it would be great anytime when the weather is hot. I intend on posting that in a few days....so come back and check it out!


This picture is of the sunset we watched last week when we were at out lake spot. We had a campfire and made s'mores as we watched the sun set......what more could you ask for?

A fun 4th of July recipe!



Hello all. We have been at the lake soaking up some sun and doing some fishing. So I have been missing in action. I wanted to post a fun recipe that my kids really like.

Pretzel Sparklers
Milk chocolate or white chocolate chips (follow directions on package to melt)
package (10 ounces) pretzel rods
Colored candy stars or sprinkles

Directions:
Dip each pretzel rod about halfway into chocolate; allow excess to drip off. Sprinkle with stars. Place on waxed paper to dry. Yield: about 2 dozen.
