Hello there! I hope this post finds everyone enjoying the warm summer sun! The sun here is playing hide and seek with me today!

I thought I would post something maybe a little different for Father's Day. Most years I do a lot of grilling because I guess the Father's around here like a big burger or a nice juicey brat. This sandwich that I am about to post is big on flavor and hearty enough for all Dad's! It's just not made on the grill!

Barbequed Pork Sandwiches
Take a four-five pound shoulder pork roast and remove the skin and fat. Make the spice rub--rub all over the pork. Cover and put in the refrigerator for at least 8 hours or overnight.
1 tablespoon paprika
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon dry mustard
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 teaspoon dried thyme
1 teaspoon dried oregano
Salt and Pepper
1/2 teaspoon cayenne

Now you need to make the sauce. Combine all the ingredients in a slow cooker. Place pork on top and cook on high for 5 1/2 hours.

2 onions chopped
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup vinegar
1 cup ketchup
1 1/2 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon dried mustard
3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon salt

When meat is tender shred with fork. You may want to take out some of the excess juice--just depends on how much liquid the roast let out.

I made homemade buns so I thought I would show you what they looked like. If I get a chance I may share the bun recipe with you all too! They are pretty good buns and they only take about an hour to make from start to finish! You don't have to do this but you surely can! It's really not that tough. If you are a beginner this would be a great bun to start with.
To serve--split buns and top with a big ol' helping of meat! :)
I know any Dad will appreciate this big juicey sandwich!!!

I hope your weekend goes wonderful for all of you and the Dad's involved! I wish a happy time spent with family and friends! By the really don't have to be a Dad to enjoy this sandwich!

**after inviting my parents over for Father's Day I realized that Father's Day is not this Sunday afterall! lol See what happens when your kids are out of school and you live out on the farm....I don't even look at a calendar!! haha **

Slow cooker recipes are my favorite! That way I don't have to heat up the kitchen too much. I know my friend, Andy, upstairs will love this and I'll be making it soon to share with him. Thanks for such a wonderful recipe. You never fail to amaze me with the recipes you post. They are always yummy! xxoo

I don't know where you find the time to create those beautiful buns! Thanks for sharing the recipe for the sandwiches...I'll pass it on to the 'chef'. He's a 'dog dad', so his day will be spent with a lapful of furry friends. Enjoy your day.

I was thinking fathers day was this week too until I looked at the calendar last week!

I make a little different version of the bbq pork (sometimes use beef)and my family LOVES it! I don't usually have homemade buns tho...I use to but just don't have the time anymore so please post the 1 hour recipe, maybe I could get that one done.

LOL My son was rushing Father's Day too. I guess he is so anxious to be on, he had it a week early.

I make a very similiar rub for a beef brisket and it cooks the same way, and at the end it is topped with BBQ sauce. ONLY DH likes his just as it is cooked, no sauce added. It is the most tender method of cooking I have ever done! YUMMO!
