I hope this finds everyone well and happy! It seems like I just do not get the opportunity to post and do the visiting that I want to do! Our kids and their activities really keep us hopping. I am not sure if I have mentioned to you before that I am Ukrainian. Full-blooded Ukrainian...all four sets of my great grandparents came from Ukraine. My parent's farm is in an area where most of the neighbors are also Ukrainian. People of my parents age (70) all speak Ukrainian. My generation can understand a bit and speak a few words. I LOVE Ukrainian food and have become obsessed with making the dishes to pass down to my children and so forth. My only living grandparent is my Grandma. She is not able to do any cooking so she loves when I make something Ukrainian and take it to her.
Lately I have been making piroshki which is a kind of like a bun with filling. You will see other nationalities with similar foods. My Grandma loves my piroshki with ground beef seasoned with some onions, salt and cracked pepper. My husband loves the ones stuffed with apples, cinnamon and sugar!

ReplyDeleteOh my! Do I love those when I can get them! There was a place here that used to make them and I bought them all the time. It's gone now and I have been sad ever since. I love the ones with meat and onions ... so savory and good when they're hot. I can still smell them. Never had any with the apples, but I'll bet they're delicious. I'd even be willing to purchase the recipe. xxoo

Mmmmmm I love me some pershki (at least that's how we spell it). My favorite (well, I'll eat them regardless, but...) is farmer sausage pershki, where you take the dough and wrap it around a stick of farmer sausage (take a sausage and cut in half, then in half again).
