Sunflower harvest is in full swing

and things are really busy here.

Sometimes I am not sure if I am coming or going!! I am starting to feel the pressure of getting through harvest, getting kids to

and from activities and

I don't have much ready for an upcoming show. I have been up since 5:30 am writing to do lists! Jr. Farmer requested Blueberry Waffles for breakfast so I whipped up a batch for everyone. It's beginning to really seem like fall even with our warm 70 degree temperatures. The sun doesn't come up until after 8 am and so my kids leave for school in the dark. I don't like that....it just seems so early! I feel like they should be home snuggling with me! Luckily, Lil' Farm Boy is still home with me!! We have a busy day with harvesting. Lil' Farmchick has basketball practice and we have church tonight. I also have to plan for the school Halloween Party. This is my 10th year of being a room mom!

Remember what our sunflowers looked like in July? Now they look like this. I know, not as pretty

but they must dry down in order

for us to combine them!!

The seeds have to be dry.

This is Mr. Farmer harvesting

Notice on the top of the combine

you can see the sunflowers seeds piling

up in the hopper? That means it is almost

time to dump the combine or the seed will run

out on the ground....and that's a no- no!

(I have accidentally overflowed the hopper

in the past...it is one thing that makes

farmers get a little upset but they do get over it!

This shows the seeds coming out of the combine

auger going into the graincart. The graincart

then dumps the seeds into the grain trailer.

I love combining sunflowers....

they are my favorite crop to harvest.

It is so much fun to be in the combine!

If you are trying to lose weight......DON"T LOOK!!

In our house Friday night is pizza and treat night. The other days of the week I try to cook and serve well balanced healthy meals. Some Fridays I make homemade pizza and other times we buy pizza. Anyway, I am getting of course here. Tonight I made something that you would not want to eat often.....very rich and sweet! Yummy? YES...Healthy? NO!!!! It's okay to eat it once in awhile though.

CARAMEL KRISPIE BARS

Ingredients:

8 tablespoons butter, divided
8 cups miniature marshmallows, divided
8 cups crisp rice cereal, divided
1 package (14 ounces) caramels I used the new Kraft caramel bits that you find in the baking section -- much easier than unwrapping all those caramels!
1 can (14 ounces) sweetened condensed milk

Directions: In a large saucepan, melt 2 tablespoons butter and 4 cups marshmallows; stir until smooth. Stir in 4 cups cereal. Pat into a greased 13-in. x 9-in. pan; set aside.

For caramel filling, place the caramels and 4 tablespoons butter in another saucepan; cook and stir over low heat until melted. Stir in the milk until smooth. Cool for 10 minutes; pour over cereal layer. Refrigerate for about 30 minutes or until firm.

In a large saucepan, melt the remaining butter and marshmallows. Stir in remaining cereal. Spread over caramel layer. Cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes or until firm. Cut into bars. Store in the refrigerator.

Now you may have noticed that I have different fonts going on here. If you know me, you will know that I am a perfectionist when it comes to things I type and print. Well, it has been bothering me since I started blogging that the drop down list of fonts had such a minimal amount of choices. Well one day while visiting Jolene's blog I noticed that she had different fonts. So, I promptly emailed her and asked her how she did it!! She was kind enough to let me in the secret!! Well, Lil' Farmchick has a friend staying over night, Jr. Farmer wants me to play Bunco with him and I must check on Little Farmer who is fast asleep in bed with visions of combining sunflowers....dancing in his head! Mud makes me crazy but awards make me happy!

As you may have noticed I have been away from the blogging "scene" for awhile. I have missed reading all of my favorite blogs.....I am going to try to catch up with you all now...so please don't forget about me!!! I think I may have mentioned that I just can't seem to get caught up on things and I always have things I NEED to get done or places I NEED to get to! I guess that is what happens when you are a wife, a mom and to make things interesting I also live on a farm. It has been very frustrating as Mr. Farmer is digging in water lines for more hydrants around our yard...(so I don't have to stretch 10 hoses around in the summer when I am watering my gardens) and also digging in electrical lines to add to a new machinery shop that we may be building later on this fall. Why is it frustrating you ask? I will give you one word: MUD! It has been muddy and you know what you get with children and mud? Mud in my garage...mud in my house....you get the picture right? So, when I am not doing something I should be doing I am vacuuming up MUD!


Okay moving on. I feel really silly about this but I just noticed the other day that my new friend Train Wreck over at Cowboys, Kids and Sunsets blessed me with an award! You have to stop in and visit her...she has a great blog, she takes some amazing pictures and she is a very sweet gal! Train Wreck...I am so sorry -- I didn't intentionally mean to miss my award!!! Canning and Painting

So, as I told you in my last post that I was planning on having a 100th post giveaway. Things here on the farm have been quite busy and I am scurrying to get my giveaway goodies together.. I just haven't had the time to get it complete between:

Yes, I am TRYING to get my entry way/mudroom painted. I forgot to take a before picture though. I will post a picture of my completed room....IF that ever happens!! lol

I have also been doing this:

I made pizza sauce with my last batch of ripe tomatoes. I will be picking more tomatoes tonight. I will be making spaghetti sauce with those tomatoes when they are all ripe. This will be my final crop of tomatoes for the year. I sure did get a lot of tomatoes this year and I feel great about getting so much salsa, pizza sauce and soon spaghetti sauce canned to use over the winter.

My friend Tammy over at Country Girl at Home is celebrating her 100th post with a wonderful giveaway! Stop in and check out her giveaway goodies and read her sweet blog too!

What do to with your extra apples.......and 100th post!

Well, it's that time of year when people are wondering.....

what shall I do with

these apples?

I thought today I would post a recipe of

something that I really enjoy.

BAKED APPLE PECAN

Sound yummy??? It is!!!!!!!!!!!!

The roasted flavor of

the pecans is

absolutely delish!!!

4 large good baking apples

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/4 cup chopped pecans

1/4 cup dried cranberries (Craisins)

1 Tbsp butter

3/4 cup boiling water

Preheat oven to 375°F. Wash apples. Remove cores to

1/2 inch of the bottom of the apples.

Use a spoon to dig out the seeds. Make the holes

about 3/4-inch to an inch wide.

In a small bowl, combine the sugar, cinnamon,

craisins, and pecans.Place apples in a baking pan. Stuff each apple

with this mixture. Top with a dot of butter

(1/4 of the Tbsp).

Add boiling water to the baking pan. Bake 30-40 minutes,
until tender, but not mushy. Remove from the oven and

baste the apples several times with the pan jucies.

Meanwhile, I also like to roast a few pecans

in a baking dish. After they have roasted for

about 45 mins. I take them out and add

cinnamon, brown sugar and craisins. I then

place this mixture around the apple on

a plate when I serve it!!!

Now some people must serve warm with vanilla ice cream on

the side and I will admit it's very good that way...but I also love

it on it's own. Try it both ways...... either way I think you will love it!!

Well, today is my 100th post!! I can't believe I have

made it this long!! I am gettting together a little

something for a giveaway...BUT I don't have

it quite ready at the time. I guess you will have to

check back again in the next few days.
