I know my posting has been so minimal lately but things have been soooo busy around here lately. I have been so behind on reading all of my favorite blogs. I will try to get caught up so please know that I have not forgotten about you all...I just have run out of time!!! Our little chicks have started school and that is an adjustment for me to get used to them being gone all day again. I don't like it!!!! Luckily I still have one little chick still with me in the nest all day!
We finally finished harvesting our wheat!! This is the earliest that we have been done with wheat in years!!!! Normally on Labor Day weekend we are still combining and don't really get the weekend off!!!!
This is a picture of us combining out in our field.
Because we are done harvesting, for now, anyway we get to pack up the kids and head to the lake for three days of tubing, fishing and just relaxing! I am excited as it is going to be a great way to end the summer!!! I love being in the sun and I need to soak up as many rays as I can and store up for the long winter!!!
I have received another award!!! I received it a few days ago but I just didn't have the time to get it posted!!! Coloradolady presented me with the
Arte Y Pico Award!!!!
Coloradolady lives in Texas but states that her heart is really in Colorado. Stop by her blog to find out more about her and read her great blog....Thanks Coloradolady for the award....I really appreciate it!! I am supposed to pass it on but I would like to award it to anyone on my blogroll!! You all deserve it!!!
Along with accepting this award, comes a few rules.

2. Each award has to have the name of the author and a link to his/her blog so that it can be visited by everyone.
3. Each award winner has to show the award and put the name and link of the blog that presented him/her the award.
4. The award winner and the one who has given the prize have to show the link arte y pico blog so everyone will know the origin of this award.

Well, I hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe Labor Day Weekend.

My award from Kindra!! Thanks!!!
Yesterday morning, my new blogging friend Kindra, smiled upon me with the SMILE AWARD! Kindra is so sweet and so talented. Lucky for me, she found my blog and has tried several of my recipes on her family and ALWAYS leaves the nicest comments!
The Rules for the Smile Award are as follows:
1. The recipient must link back to the awards creator (it's right on the award)
2. You must post these rules if you receive the award.
3. You must choose 5 people to receive the award after receiving it yourself.
4. You must fit the characteristics of the recipient of the award (see below.)
5. You must post the characteristics of a recipient.
6. You must create a post sharing your win with others.
7. You must thank your giver.
Characteristics for the Smile Award:1. Must display a cheerful attitude. (not necessarily at all times--we are all human).
2. Must love one another.
3. Must make mistakes.
4. Must learn from others.
5. Must be a positive contributor to blog world.
6. Must love life.
7. Must love kids.
So, as everyone states-- in no particular order--here are my fellow friendly bloggers that I have chosen to receive this award;
Country Girl at Home Tammy always leaves the sweetest comments! When I first "met' her I knew we were a lot alike because she says "There's no place I'd rather be than at home with my family." and that is TOTALLY ME too!
Cranberry Crossings Carolyn first struck me as being such a warm and caring person. As I have gotten to know her more and continue to read her blog I have found that I was right!!
Farmhouse Blessings Lea is just sooo sweet. She is a wonderful lady who knows how to enjoy the simple things in life and realizes that these things are most important!
Living Beautifully Connie is a great decorator and really gets into it! She totally cracks me up with her wonderful sense of humor!!! She always makes me smile.
HippieDog Michelle is a mixture of sweet and sassy! She has my kind of sense of humor! She is one terrific artist too!
Well, there you have it folks! I have some other things I wanted to post but they are just going to have to wait. I need to head out to help my farmer!!
Hugs to you~

Yummy heart healthy soup and an award!!
In honor of the fact that we FINALLY finished up with our BARLEY harvest (we still have wheat, flax and sunflowers to go) I decided to cook up a big, old pot of heart healthy
CHICKEN BARLEY CHILI.
Not only is barley a great source of fiber it
is also low fat with no saturated fat or cholesterol!!
1-14.5 oz Diced tomatoes
16 oz. Salsa
2 cups fat free chicken broth
1 cup quick cooking Barley
3 cups of water
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 teaspoon cumin
1-15 oz. can northern beans
3 cups chicken breast diced
In a soup kettle combine the first 7 ingredients. Over high
heat bring to a boil, cover and reduce heat to low. Simmer
20 minutes, stirring occassionally. Add beans and
chicken, increase heat to high until the chili
comes to a boil. Simmer for another few minutes
until the barley is tender. If desired, top with low fat
cheese and or sour cream. It tastes great just as is!! Chicken Barley Chili
that's what's for supper in
