An Indian Summer has set in here on the farm. Last week we had some pretty chilly, wet days. Today the sun is out in full force and we are combining our flax which has gone from the pretty blue flowers I showed you earlier this summer to a dried version!
Blooming flax & growing children!!
This what the flax looks like after it has bloomed
and is just about ready to harvest.
This is what flax looks like straight off the combine.
Crops and leaves are turning color...
livestock will soon grow thicker coats.... the chilly days of fall are on their way.
But for now we have a few more warm days!
Well, this farmchick has to get out to the field with dinner for the hungry farmer.

Such wonderful pictures. Great to see the flax before and after! I tell you, I can feel fall in the air. It won't be long now and we'll be having the heater on full time.
ReplyDeleteWe used to grow alot of flax when I was a kid but nobody around here does anymore. Thanks for bringing back some great memories for me.
ReplyDeleteWe are hoping to start combining the soybeans next week. Things have really changed here in the last few weeks. Hopefully the corn dries down alot this week with the wind and warm weather so we won't have the expense of drying too much (crossing fingers).
We lived in a wheat farming area for 2.5 years, in NW Okla, a number of years ago. I got farmer educated. Those funny folks had me eating calf fries!!! Only one time. Yuck!! Flax looks beautiful in the Spring. Keep it up. We need our farmers.

ReplyDeleteI know the farmers near me have been very busy too.. I can hear those combines running late into the night sometimes! I wonder if our farmers wives bring their hubbys dinner to the fields too?
